Al Gore, Tokyo Governor, join leaders to celebrate GLOBE 35th Anniversary
Former Vice President of the United States of America and co-founder of GLOBE Legislators, Al Gore, has joined climate leaders including members of parliament from across the world in celebrating the 35th anniversary of GLOBE.
Mr Al Gore, in a keynote video message played during the event at the UK Parliament, London, paid tribute to the enduring work of the organisation, the role of legislators in driving climate action, and called for increased consensus building for future work.
He stated that GLOBE which was founded by him and other legislators from across the world on the eve of the Rio Earth Summit must continue to galvanise parliamentarians to constantly renew political will for climate action.
In her video message, Governor of Tokyo and former GLOBE Board Member, Ms Yuriko Koike, commended GLOBE for the work it is doing and stated that in keeping with this vision, she has continued to support and implement critical sustainable projects in Tokyo.
The high-level reception also featured speeches and messages in-person by: Rt Hon Graham Stuart MP, former UK Minister for Energy Security & Net Zero and former President of GLOBE; Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Nigeria, Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu CFR, PhD; Mr Kamal Kishore, Special Representative for the UN Secretary General, UNDRR; Mr Nick Mabey OBE, Founder & Chair, London Climate Action Week; CEO and Co-Founder, E3G; Hon Nigar Arpadarai MP, COP29 High-level Champion and Mr Pablo Vieira, Head, NDC Partnership.
High-point of the event was the inauguration of a new GLOBE Legislators Board led by its new President, Rep Sam Onuigbo.
