We are delighted to announce that GLOBE International will be hosting the hybrid GLOBE COP27 Legislators Summit from Monday 7 to Wednesday 9 November in Cairo, Egypt, coinciding with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) COP27 hosted by the Egyptian Government in Sharm El-Sheikh from 7-18 November 2022.
We would request you to kindly Save the Dates for your potential attendance at this hybrid Summit which will take place in Cairo and be available on an interactive digital platform for those unable to attend in person.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the landmark Rio Earth Summit agreements on climate change, desertification and biodiversity. With major COPs (conference of parties) taking place this year for all three Rio Conventions - the UN Framework Conventions on climate change (CCC COP27), biodiversity (CBD COP15) and desertification (CCD COP15) - we are taking the opportunity to address the interlinkages between the Rio Conventions and the need for integrated solutions to the complex and interconnected crises of climate change, biodiversity and desertification, reflected in the complex climate impacts, pandemics and food security challenges facing the world.
The GLOBE COP27 Legislators Summit will therefore address the theme of "Delivering on the Rio Conventions: an integrated approach to climate, nature, desertification and risk governance", in partnership with the three United Nations Rio Convention secretariats and the UN agency for disaster risk reduction (UNDRR). The Summit will highlight emerging best practice in integrated governance and legislative approaches of relevance to lawmakers, using both expert-led and peer-learning models.
We invite you to kindly register your interest in attending the Summit, which will also include complimentary visits to the Pyramids at Giza and / or a boat ride on the Nile for registered delegates, by sending an email to <email@example.com>. (Delegates may then travel on to Sharm El-Sheikh if they are accredited as observers to the UNFCCC COP27 or on government delegations.)
Further details on the Summit will be available on the GLOBE website in due course and updates will be sent to all registering their interest in attending in person or virtually.
