London boasts the largest concentration of organisations working on climate change across policy, business, finance, law, insurance, advocacy, science, technology, diplomacy and academia. London Climate Action Week (LCAW) is designed to connect and leverage these institutions – including through their international reach – for greater collective impact at the global and local level. With the support of the GLA, many London stakeholders have come together to showcase climate solutions, promote innovation and demonstrate leadership.
Activities are taking place across the city at, or engaging, a range of London institutions such as the City of London, The Economist, LSE, Imperial College, The Supreme Court, English National Opera, Tate Modern, Chatham House and Southwark Cathedral.
The full calendar of 100+ registered events for the week can be accessed here.
GLOBE International’s Malini Mehra has been closely involved with the week’s design and delivery. A commissioner on sustainable development to the Mayor of London, she has worked with London’s diverse communities to engage arts and culture, faith, youth, schools, media, entertainment, sports and other sectors in a full-spectrum programme of events. Her blog Beyond the Climate Bubble: London’s Diversity in Action highlights some of these.
GLOBE International is proud to be hosting a number of events and initiatives during LCAW2019 with UK Members of Parliament and partners including the Club of Rome, Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change & Environment LSE, Project Everyone, World’s Largest Lesson, London Sustainable Schools Forum, UK Climate Change Coalition, Client Earth, E3G, Commonwealth Environment Law Initiative and The Roundhouse.
