Globe@35th Anniversary
On Wednesday, 24 June 2026, from 18:30 to 21:30 at the House of Commons in the Palace of Westminster, London, United Kingdom, GLOBE Legislators will be hosting a Parliamentary Reception to mark its 35th Anniversary.
The theme of the 35th Anniversary celebration is “Building Political Resilience & Public Consensus for Climate Action,” without which sustaining climate action across administrations and political cycles will become increasingly difficult. Speakers and delegates will draw on their experiences of building alliances for climate action, avoiding political polarisation, and neutralising disinformation, misinformation and vested interests. Political skills of growing relevance at a time of intense domestic and geopolitical challenges worldwide, as climate impacts continue to mount globally.ts mount globally.
This important event will convene Members of Parliament and other key stakeholders from across the world at London Climate Action Week (LCAW) – now being called the “second COP”. GLOBE is a founding-partner of LCAW and the 35th Anniversary Reception is one of the week’s flagship events for political and diplomatic leaders.
For 35 years, GLOBE has been at the forefront of driving parliamentary action on climate change and sustainable development across party lines.From providing the first platform for parliamentary engagement championing climate action at the UN, to serving as the first ever Focal Point for the UNFCCC’s Parliamentary Group, GLOBE has brought together a growing parliamentary constituency shaping climate laws and energising domestic action.
Hosted by the Rt. Hon. Graham Stuart MP, former UK Minister of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, and former President of GLOBE International, the 35th Anniversary event will welcome lawmakers from across the political spectrum from the UK and abroad.
The event will mark the transition of GLOBE’s HQ to Nairobi, Kenya, and the induction of its new President, Rt. Hon. Sam Onuigbo, Sponsor of Nigeria’s Climate Change Act, and Board Members, Senator Mohamed Faki, CBS, MP and Hon Charity Kathambi, MP from Kenya.
There will be a special keynote address from H.E Hon. Al Gore, Former US Vice President & co-founder of GLOBE, by video; as well as Yuriko Koike, Governor of Tokyo and former President of GLOBE Japan; Hon. Nigar Arpadarai MP, COP29 High-level Champion; Hon. Catherine Juvinao Clavijo MP (Columbia); Kamal Kishore, SRSG & Head of UNDRR; and GLOBE’s Malini Mehra, who will step down as CEO after almost 12 years at the helm of the organisation.
