Petition for UNFCCC Parliamentary Constituency
Proposal for Parliamentary Constituency discussed at Brazil Pavilion, COP29 Baku
The role of parliaments in driving climate action amongst parties to the UNFCCC has been severally emphasised by GLOBE even before its role as the Focal Point of the informal UNFCCC Parliamentary Group.
With COP30 in sight, GLOBE and partners including Clima de Política, Plataforma CIPÓ, Climate Parliament, Parliamentarians For a Fossil-Free Future, Elected Officials to Protect America, ParlAmericas, etc have been pushing for the formalisation of the Parliamentary Group into a formal UNFCCC Constituency.
This led to the development and submission of a letter to the COP30 Presidency, signed by MPs from around the world.

Dear Honourable Members of Parliament,
You may recall that GLOBE has been working with our Brazilian parliamentary partners, Plataforma CIPO, Clima de Politica, OPCC and others since last year to advocate for the formalisation of the Parliamentary Group at the UNFCCC. At present parliamentarians represent an Informal Group.
We now have an opportunity to formally submit the Letter of Parliamentarians to the UNFCCC Secretariat on Wednesday 12th November.
