UN Welcomes landmark Rio+20 Legislator's Protocol

The Protocol was signed by the heads of the national delegations during a formal presentation to the United Nations Under Secretary General responsible for Rio+20, Sha Zukang. The Protocol sets out a number of commitments for parliaments designed to strengthen delivery of the original Rio agenda; progress within UN Conventions on Biodiversity, Climate Change and Desertification; and commitments to emerge from Rio+20.

President Felipe Calderón of Mexico has formally signed the decree enacting Mexico's General Law of Climate Change.  The law advanced by GLOBE Mexico enters into legal force following landslide votes in the Senate and Chamber of Deputies.

300 legislators from 85 countries will convene in the Palace Tiradentes from the 15th-17th June at the 1st World Summit of Legislators. 38 of the delegations will be led by the President or Speaker of their national legislature.
